Rabies Exposure Treatment

The wound should be treated in a timely and correct manner, strictly disinfected, the risk of the wound should be assessed. Then rabies vaccine should be vaccinated according to the results. Five-dose rabies vaccine should be carried out on D 0-3-7-14-28 respectively. The vaccination site: adults are injected intramuscularly in the deltoid muscle of the upper arm, and for children, it is recommended to inject the vaccine into the muscle at anterolateral thigh. During the vaccination period, you must pay attention to rest, keep in a light diet, do not drink alcohol, and do not exercise vigorously.

For post-exposure prophylaxis of rabies, every attempt should be made to adhere to the recommended vaccination schedules. Once vaccination is initiated, delays of a few days for individual doses are unimportant, but the effect of longer lapses of weeks or more is unknown. Most interruptions in the vaccine schedule do not require re-initiation of the entire series. For most minor deviations from the schedule, vaccination can be resumed as though the patient were on schedule. Make the patients know and remember that rabies is a 100% fatal disease. And the only way to treat it is to get vaccination and it has to be given in time otherwise, it is life-threatening.
